MATT BRAY - MA Fine Art
Matt Bray is a contemporary artist working from a post-authorial position, using painting and drawing to explore discussions around subject and object and their relation to concepts of self. His work takes a seemingly contradictory position between transcendentalism and base-materialism, illustrating the tension between these two modes of being within his own identity. The artist uses his practice as a means of self examination and expression, and although the journey is deeply personal, something valuable frequently emerges for the audience to engage in.

‘There is a Storm Coming’ (2010-12)
This image is part of Rikard Osterlund’s ongoing portrait series featuring artists and crafts people who live and work in the Medway towns. I am featured amongst some very fine artists who I know and respect very much, and I am honoured to have been included in such a beautiful and interesting photographic project.
You can see the whole series on Rikard’s website using the following link:http://rikardosterlund.com/projects/there-is-a-storm-coming/

An old printing plate of zombies from the lab in I Am Legend that I’m thinking of including in the new installation for end of year show. Seems to fit the theme of subject as object, and I always liked this plate.

Some hands from the photoshoot with Rikard Osterlund at my studio a few weeks back. Rikard and I will be returning to the Horsberidge Gallery in Whistable for a week long exhibition in November along with four other artists. Further details nearer the time. Images courtesy of Rikard.
